Committed to delivering an Individualised ‘Safe Schools Program’

The Victorian Government committed to making all government secondary schools being safe by the end of 2018.  Their steps to implement a safe schools program has helped schools to foster a safe environment that is supportive and inclusive of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) students. Creating this environment is key to tackling bullying, discrimination and harassment at schools, particularly arising from homophobia and transphobia. Safe and inclusive schools benefit all students and are critical to students achieving their full potential. Students who don’t feel safe or included at school cannot learn effectively.

Safe Schools is not part of the curriculum, nor is it prescriptive in any way. Schools have the discretion to use as many or as few of the resources, training materials, and other support that the program offers to help them create a safe and inclusive for all students.  For further information, click here.
