Dear LSC Community Members,

A very big welcome back to Term 2!  The term is only a few weeks in, and we are already busy with lots of exciting events and opportunities for our students and staff.

Learning Conferences

We started Term 2 with a very successful Learning Conferences on Thursday 23^rd April.  It was a wonderful day where staff had the important opportunity to meet with students and parents/carers to discuss progress, achievements and areas for improvement to support learning for the term ahead.

Here are just a few stats from the day I wanted to share with our community:

• We had 1574 bookings made for conferences – this is the highest number on our records back to 2019
• We had 58 conferences happening at the same time at our busiest period
• We had over 40% of our families make at least one booking – this was another record broken!
• Our staff and families were supported by 20 external interpreters booked across the day

The engagement from our families was some of the best ever at LSC, and we encourage all families to attend Learning Conferences when these are scheduled to connect with staff and support your child and their learning.  Our next Learning Conferences will run in Term 3.

ANZAC Day Commemorations

On Friday 24^th April, the college recognised ANZAC Day with commemoration assemblies.  With our Gym currently undergoing renovation, we pivoted to run three Sub School ANZAC assemblies.  Our College Captains took the lead to run the whole assembly which they did brilliantly.  This included sharing information about the ANZACs and the battles of Gallipoli, the reading of the Ode of Remembrance and the reading of a poem ANZAC Day by D. Hunter, a veteran of the Battle of Shaggy Ridge during World War II.

Our students listening intently and showed great respect overall, and the services were great examples of our College Values coming to life.  I thank our College Captains supported by members of our Principal Class for their work in preparing and rehearsing in the lead up to these assemblies.

Work-Ready Accelerator Program (WRAP) – A First for LSC!

We are excited to have launched a brand-new school initiative at Lyndhurst Secondary College in Term 2 – the Work-Ready Accelerator Program (WRAP).  This specially designed program sees a group of 16 selected students engage with a range of vocational courses each and every week.  This program is being run in collaboration with Merinda Park Learning and Community Centre, with our students heading offsite to engage with their courses.  This program has given our students the opportunity to engage with more of an adult-style learning environment, as well as experience a range of different courses all in one go.

The courses our WRAP students will graduate with include:

• Certificate II in Public Safety (Firefighting)
• First Aid/CPR
• Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)
• Food Handlers Certificate
• Barista Skill Set
• Construction White Card

We look forward to being able to celebrate the success of our first-ever WRAP cohort in their graduation ceremony at the end of the term and hope to have further WRAP cohorts at LSC in the future!

Uniform Reminders

As we head into the colder weather, now is an important time for students and families to do a stocktake of school uniform items and make purchases for warmer weather options as needed.

It is the expectation and requirement that all students are wearing full and correct uniform each and every day as per our Student Dress Code Policy (available from https://www.lyndhurst.vic.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Student-Dress-Code-Policy-2026-2028.pdf).

The following are examples of breaches of our uniform policy we can sometimes see as the weather cools down:

• Non-LSC jumpers/jackets/vests: Students are not permitted to wear non-LSC jumpers, hoodies or jackets. These items will be confiscated and students will be offered a loan jumper/jacket for the day if required.
• Black pants/shorts: No black pants or shorts are permitted. All pants and shorts must be dark navy and have no other brands/logos on them.  LSC permits navy pants/shorts with the LSC logo or plain.
• Cargo pants/leggings/jeans: Students are not permitted to wear cargo pants, jeans or leggings (even if navy blue) – this style is not approved uniform and there are a range of different options available as official uniform that suit a range of styles and body types.

Our uniform is designed to be both warm and comfortable, with warmer options including our rugby jumper, ¼ zip jumper, updated jacket (thicker lining), puffer vests and puffer jackets.  We also have updated our tracksuit pant options to provide students with more options of styles, including some thicker fleece.

All items are available through our uniform supplier, Beleza.  Orders can be made online or you can visit their store to get stocked up.  Any families experiencing significant financial hardship are able to speak to their relevant Sub School to discuss available supports for uniform to ensure all our students are wearing our full and correct uniform with pride each and every day.

Year 10 English

Year 10 English students are currently studying Twelve Angry Men, and Ms Toole transformed the classroom into a jury room to bring the text to life. Students took on the role of jurors, engaging in thoughtful discussion and fully immersing themselves in the experience.

Stay well this winter

Influenza (flu) can be serious, especially for children. Choose to protect yourself and your loved ones with an annual flu vaccine. The earlier you and your family get vaccinated, the better your protection heading into winter.

Keeping our school community well

We encourage parents and carers and students to:

• wash or sanitise your hands thoroughly and regularly, particularly before and after touching your face
• cough or sneeze into your elbow
• stay home if unwell and consult your GP or Nurse-on-Call as needed
• stay up to date with your flu vaccinations.

Flu vaccinations

Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and older.

Some people are more at risk of severe illness from flu, especially babies and toddlers. They can get a free vaccination as part of the National Immunisation Program.

You can book a flu vaccine through your GP or pharmacy, or find a flu vaccine near you.

RSV vaccinations for mothers and babies

RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) is a common virus that causes colds and ear infections. In babies, it can cause severe illness like bronchiolitis.

The RSV vaccine is available for pregnant women as part of the National Immunisation Program. In Victoria, eligible babies can also get the RSV vaccine until Wednesday 30 September 2026.

You can speak with your GP or midwife about the vaccine.

Department of Education Mobile Phone Policy

A reminder that the Department of Education has in place a mobile phone ban that requires students who bring mobiles phones to school to have them switched off and securely put away in their lockers during school hours.

The department is requiring all schools to ensure this ban is in place and enforced from the start of the 2024 school year.

The ban applies equally to all government schools right across the state. This helps ensure that school is a learning environment free from unnecessary distractions and disruptions.

By ensuring mobile phones are kept away at recess and lunch times, students can interact with each other face-to-face, without the distractions and social pressures that mobile phones can cause.

I ask for the support of all our families, staff and students in continuing to support the implementation of this policy in our school.

Reminder: The Secondary School Immunisation Program offers free National Immunisation Program schedule vaccines to all eligible Year 7 and Year 10 students.

Year 7 students : Wednesday 19th August 2026

The City of Casey’s immunisation service delivers the school-based immunisation program. Council now uses a system provided by the Department of Health, called the Central Immunisation Records Victoria (CIRV) Portal, to manage those receiving an immunisation.

Look out for the online CIRV Portal Consent form (this will be emailed late July), even if you choose not to consent for your child to be vaccinated at school.

Parents should always make contact with the General Office first when visiting the school or trying to make contact with their children. Appointments with teachers must be made via telephone or compass.

Late arrival to school

In order to minimise disruption to class and maximise learning opportunities for our students, we would like to remind you that students are expected to be at school by 8:50am, ready and prepared for Home Group. We appreciate your support in this. If you have any questions please call the General Office on 5996 0144. If students do arrive late, they need to go to their sub school to sign in and receive a late pass from the administration officer.

Uniform

Beleza School Uniforms in High Street,Cranbourne and Hallam are our uniform suppliers.

All students must be in full school uniform every day. Please refer to our website for Uniform Policy and Dress Code regarding our expectations.

Lyndhurst Secondary College school day

School day – 8:50am – 3:00pm daily (excluding weekends and all public and school holidays)
The College runs a 5 period day. Please see Term Dates & Bell Times on our website for details of times.

Lost property

Please ensure all school clothes, books and personal property are clearly labelled with the student’s name. Many items are not returned to their rightful owners because they are not labelled correctly or clearly.

USBs should include a folder with the student’s name and form to assist in returning it to the correct person. If you have lost anything see the general office during recess, lunch or at the end of day.
