General Information
- Students who are unwell should not attend school
- Primary responsibility for the prevention and control of illness or disease lies with individuals and families – more information on this can be located in the Department of Education’s Infectious Diseases Policy (available from https://www2.education.vic.gov.au/pal/infectious-diseases/policy).
- The College’s Sick Bay is located in the Administration Building and is open during school hours for students to access if requiring First Aid, if they become unwell whilst at school or they require medication during the school day.
- If a student becomes unwell during the school day they may be directed to the Sick Bay and monitored by staff. Depending on the nature of their symptoms, staff may contact parents/carers or an emergency contact person to ask them to collect the student.
- If a student becomes injured during the school day, they will be directed or supported to Sick Bay. Depending on the nature of their injury, staff may contact parents/carers, emergency contacts, or in the event of serious injury, emergency services.
- It is highly recommended that all students and families have appropriate ambulance coverage. An Ambulance Victoria membership protects you against costs for ambulance transport and paramedic care. More information on this is available from https://www.ambulance.vic.gov.au/membership.
- Students are not allowed to make their own arrangements to go home – they need to attend Sick Bay or the Office who will arrange contact home.
- It is critically important that parent/carer and emergency contact details are up to date in the event a student becomes unwell or is injured and contact needs to be made.
- Please notify Sick Bay staff of any current or past health issues or injuries so students can be cared for accordingly.
Medication
NO medication should be in a student’s possession.
- The only medication allowed to be carried by a student is Ventolin or similar asthma relievers.
- Medication Authority forms are to be completed and signed by a parent/carer before staff can administer medication e.g. Paracetamol.
- Regular daily medication MUST be stored in Sick Bay and relevant documentation provided by the GP. Medication is to be handed into the college In its original prescribed package with details as to the dosage required.
Asthma
We require all students who suffer from asthma to provide an Asthma Action Plan to Sick Bay at the start of every year, or upon a new diagnosis.

Anaphylaxis
Anaphylaxis is life threatening.
- An Adrenaline Device must be provided for anaphylactic students and must be renewed prior to Its expiration date. An Anaphylaxis Management and Action Plan must be completed annually.
- If a student’s Adrenaline device expires and is not replaced, they will not be permitted on camps/excursions.
