Our college community has hit the ground running in Term 3, with lots of exciting events, activities and learning occurring in classes, as well as out and about in the community.

I wish to welcome all students and families that are new to LSC and have joined our college community this term.  I also welcome the following new staff members for Term 3:

Building Works Update

I am excited to announce that we will be commencing works on our $13.6M facilities upgrade during Term 3, with an expected commencement in late August.  This will see Lyndhurst Secondary College’s current Gym building upgraded to include the following facilities:

• Refurbished double indoor court
• New auditorium with capacity of over 300 people
• 2 x new Food Tech kitchens
• New Weights Room space
• New Music room and Instrumental Music spaces
• 3 x new classrooms
• New canteen

We have already relocated some learning spaces in preparation for works, and will communicate more information about changes to access to buildings/spaces as required.

Term 3 Whole School Assembly – Celebrating Excellence and Endeavour

On Thursday 24^th July, our college community met in our Gymnasium for our whole school assembly.  This was a fantastic opportunity to start the term with a celebration of Semester 1, with a particular focus on recognition of students who achieved academic excellence and endeavour.  We were entertained by a video clip with our Term 2 highlights of all the activities occurring in the college, and celebrated our Semester 1 Lyndhurst Legacy champions across our five college values, as well as the overall champions for the most Legacy points for the semester.

We also launched two new awards that will be presented each and every semester at Lyndhurst – Academic Excellence and Academic Endeavour.  As part of our Semester 1 reporting, all teachers were invited to nominate up to three students per class for each of the following categories:

• Academic Excellence: Students who display high-quality work in all their classwork and assessments, as well as acting as a model student in the subject based on their academic results and work habits.
• Academic Endeavour: Students who display a dedication to the subject, including a focus on improving in their skills and work over the course of the semester. They have demonstrated effort to improve as evidenced by improved academic results or work habits which has led to a greater amount of success in the subject.

Students who received three or more nominations under each category were presented with a certificate and congratulated on a fantastic achievement for Semester 1!  It was also wonderful to have a large number of parents and carers attend to help recognise and celebrate their young person’s achievements.  Our first group have set the bar high, and can’t wait to see new names and faces receiving these awards in Semester 2!

Focus for Term 3 – Be on Time and Ready for Learning

As we start Term 3, there is a strong focus on resetting and re-establishing routines and expectations.  For us at LSC, we have had a renewed focus on attendance at the college, as well as ensuring all students are in full and correct uniform, and have all their required equipment for every class, every day.

This commenced in Week 2 with a focus on students being on time to school.  We know and understand that there may be one-off reasons for being late to school, but the importance of being on time is critical to ensure students are not missing important information, notices, check ins and activities within Home Group as an important way to positively start their school day.  We expect all students to be arriving at school no later than 8.40am to give themselves enough time to go to their locker and be ready and lining up for Home Group before the 8.50am bell.

The impact of being late, even if only for a few minutes, can really add up – please see below for more information.

We have also prepared some important information about the importance of attending school, with consideration of the impact taking even 1 day off a fortnight can have on academic success – please see below for more information.

To support our focus on attendance, we ask all parents/carers to ensure there is a note up on Compass, an email, a text or a call to the school if your student is going to be late or absent.  This is a critical step to explain absences, as well as support students and families to improve student attendance at school.

We will also be refreshing our focus on equipment and uniform so stay tuned and keep an eye on Compass and social media for important information and announcements.

2026 Subject Selections and Course Counselling

The last couple of weeks of Term 2, as well as the first few weeks of Term 3 sees our students taking part in all important Course Counselling and subject selection processes.  For many, this is an exciting time where students re joined by their parents/carers to discuss their future pathways and make all-important choices for the future.  This year, we held an EAL Course Counselling day where our Assistant Principals Ms Kelly Bendon and Ms Lauren Harvey met with all EAL students alongside our MEA team and interpreters to choose subjects.  This day was a huge success, with the ability to spend more time on appointments, as well as have more tailored advice and information provided to lead to better decisions.

On Tuesday in Weeks 1, 2 and 3, our current Year 8-10 students each attended a 20 minute appointment to discuss their plans and enter their subjects.  This was with the support and guidance of an expert team of Course Counsellors, as well as our Careers Team who were also on hand to support students and families to register for VET courses and obtain their Unique Student Identifier (USI), a key process in enrolling in VET.  The days were busy and full of excitement, and I am pleased to have witnessed our students coming in prepared with ideas after reading the handbooks, attending the Careers Expo and attending the Senior Pathways Information Evening in late Term 2.

Attention Year 7 Families

Lyndhurst Secondary College will be hosting the Secondary School Vaccine Program on August 12th 2025

The Secondary School Immunisation Program offers free National Immunisation Program schedule vaccines to all eligible Year 7 students for;

– Diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (whooping cough)

– Human papillomavirus (HPV)

The City of Casey’s immunisation service delivers the school-based immunisation program. Council uses a system provided by the Department of Health, called the Central Immunisation Records Victoria (CIRV) Portal, to manage those receiving an immunisation.

Please complete the online CIRV Portal Consent form ASAP, even if you choose not to consent for your child to be vaccinated at school. The link is in your Compass feed.

South East Zone School Clay Target Championships:

I did well today (Tuesday 5th August). In the first half I shot 7/10, and in the second half shot 10/10, putting me in a 4 way tie for first place in senior boys against some of the best shooters in our zone. Tie breakers are decided through a shoot-off where you shoot 5 targets until a winner is decided.

In the first 5 of the tiebreaker, I dropped 2 targets along with Kai, putting us in the run for 3rd. We kept going for another 10 targets all of which I hit, Kai missed 1 target. I finished in 3rd place which qualifies me to go to Echuca state titles in September.

Homework Club 2025

Year 12 English / EAL students are invited to attend a weekly Masterclass on a Friday afternoon. The students will be working together as a cohort with one or more of the Senior English teaching team to strengthen their skills. The session will run until 4pm.

What’s happening in Wellbeing during Term 3

Term 3 is shaping up to be meaningful, engaging and fun for our team. Planned Wellbeing initiatives include:

• Breakfast club – offered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings outside of C3. This is from 8.00am – 8.30am, with toast, fruit and cereal available to all students.
• R U Ok Day – on Thursday 11^th September – whole school lunchtime activities planned, further details to be provided closer to the date.
• PRISM group for LGBTQI+ students – Mondays at lunchtime
• Chill Time group – Tuesdays at lunchtime in E5
• Senior school wellbeing drop in – Thursdays at lunchtime in the senior space
• Casey 360 Bus – bringing mobile youth services to the school, dates to be advertised soon.
• Small Group Programs – Seasons for Growth, MPower, and Men2Be to support emotional literacy, empowerment, and resilience in middle school students.
• City of Casey Group Programs – designed to build skills and social connection for Year 8s.

How to refer to the Wellbeing team

• Student self referral; Students can attend the Wellbeing office at recess or lunch time, and ask to speak to someone. Students can also use the ‘Wellbeing Self-Referral’ form on Compass (by clicking on the star icon and scrolling all the way to the bottom), and someone from the team will meet with them in the following few days.
• Sub school or teacher referrals; Students can speak to any staff member they feel comfortable with, and say they would like a referral to Wellbeing. Teachers will then complete a Wellbeing referral form on Compass, and someone from the team will meet with them in the following few days.
• Parent referrals: If parents are concerned about their young person for any reason, they can contact the Wellbeing team at school by calling the school number (03) 5996 0144 and asking for Wellbeing. Our Wellbeing team can also provide parents with information about other counselling services in the area outside of school if this is needed.

Chill Time

Department of Education Mobile Phone Policy

A reminder that the Department of Education has in place a mobile phone ban that requires students who bring mobiles phones to school to have them switched off and securely put away in their lockers during school hours.

The department is requiring all schools to ensure this ban is in place and enforced from the start of the 2024 school year.

The ban applies equally to all government schools right across the state. This helps ensure that school is a learning environment free from unnecessary distractions and disruptions.

By ensuring mobile phones are kept away at recess and lunch times, students can interact with each other face-to-face, without the distractions and social pressures that mobile phones can cause.

I ask for the support of all our families, staff and students in continuing to support the implementation of this policy in our school.

Late arrival to school

In order to minimise disruption to class and maximise learning opportunities for our students, we would like to remind you that students are expected to be at school by 8:50am, ready and prepared for Home Group. We appreciate your support in this. If you have any questions please call the General Office on 5996 0144. If students do arrive late, they need to go to their sub school to sign in and receive a late pass from the administration officer.

Uniform

Beleza School Uniforms in High Street,Cranbourne and Hallam are our uniform suppliers.

All students must be in full school uniform every day. Please refer to our website for Uniform Policy and Dress Code regarding our expectations.

Lyndhurst Secondary College school day

School day – 8:50am – 3:00pm daily (excluding weekends and all public and school holidays)
The College runs a 5 period day. Please see Term Dates & Bell Times on our website for details of times.

Lost property

Please ensure all school clothes, books and personal property are clearly labelled with the student’s name. Many items are not returned to their rightful owners because they are not labelled correctly or clearly.

USBs should include a folder with the student’s name and form to assist in returning it to the correct person. If you have lost anything see the general office during recess, lunch or at the end of day.
