Principal’s Message – 2025 Issue 2

Dear LSC Community Members,
It is hard to believe we are already close to the end of Term 1! There has been a lot of things occurring for all year levels in the college, and as we enter the final couple of weeks, many of our students will be entering into a period of assessments for each of their subjects. See below for some key events and happenings from this month at LSC.
NAPLAN
Our 2025 NAPLAN assessment window was a huge success, with very strong participation from our Year 7 and 9 students. Our participation rate for 2025 was the highest I have seen in my time at LSC, with our Year 7s all having above 98% participation rate for all assessments, and Year 9s all above 95% participation rate for all assessments. A huge thank you goes to Ms Lauren Harvey (Assistant Principal – Teaching and Learning Innovation) for her leadership in this space, as well as a big team supporting the NAPLAN sessions to run smoothly each and every day, including our IT team, our Learning Specialist team and our staff actively supervising the sessions.
We are excited to get the NAPLAN results later on in the year as 2025 is be the first year we will be able to establish growth between Year 7 and 9 since the change of the measures used nation-wide.
Laptop Audit and eLearning
As part of our annual tasks for start-up, we conducted a thorough audit of students with laptops as we look to close the gap of numbers of students not having devices for learning. Having a device is a critical part of a student’s learning to build their ICT skills in general, as well as have access to all the learning activities and opportunities in class. This could be the ability to research topics, accessing their lesson plans, accessing learning tasks and using applications like Microsoft Office 365 to produce class work and homework.
As part of our audit process, families of all students identified as not having a laptop will be contacted by a member of our Leadership Team to discuss reasons, and any potential barriers that may be present. One way we currently reduce financial barriers is by providing a generous subsidy of $150 per device when parents/carers purchase devices via our approved supplier partner, Learning With Technologies (LWT). The push will be for all students to have and own their own device as opposed to borrowing from the Library on a day by day basis. This enables students to continue learning at home and ensure they do not fall behind.
One of the reasons we are pushing our eLearning is that from Term 2, our Year 7 to 10 subject teachers will be establishing and using Education Perfect to set regular homework in line with our Homework Policy. Education Perfect is an online platform that contains a huge range of interactive digital activities that staff can use to consolidate class-based learning and track student progress.
Showcase Evening and School Tours
On Wednesday 26th March, we held our annual Showcase Evening – the LSC version of Open Night. We have been running a number of school tours so far this year, all with big numbers of parents/carers and potential future students attending. Showcase Evening will see staff and students from all learning areas, as well as other important areas in our College (e.g. Student Voice, Wellbeing, Inclusion) showcasing work samples and activities, as well as having lots of time to chat with families looking to make Lyndhurst SC their school of choice. I am looking forward to welcoming some big numbers on this evening in 2025!
