English as an Additional Language (EAL) at Lyndhurst
Lyndhurst Secondary College has a strong commitment to maintaining and improving access to English as an Additional Language.
Qualified EAL teachers deliver our program across Years 7–12.
We have a number of Multicultural Education Aides who are trained in the support of students from a range of different backgrounds.
The aim is to improve the students’ reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, such that they can transition into mainstream English.
Our EAL students are supported every step of the way.
We engage with external agencies and programs, such as Foundation House, the Centre for Multicultural Youth and the Refugee Education Support Program to ensure that each student is afforded the best chance of success.
Our vision is to equip all EAL learners with the English language and the literacy skills they need to participate in education, the workplace and community life in the 21st century.
Integration Program for Students with a Disability at Lyndhurst
Lyndhurst Secondary College actively promotes the acceptance of individual differences, rights and potential under the principle of equal opportunity.
Our Integration Program operates within the guidelines of the Department of Education and Training for Students with Disabilities.
We recognise that security, independence and self-esteem are of paramount importance in ensuring successful student outcomes.
Students benefit from the expertise, care and flexibility of the integration staff.
Assistance includes:
- the development of Individual Learning Programs
- student Support Group meetings (SSG)
- classroom support across all curriculum areas
- an Alternative Learning Program in Years 7 and 8
- adjustments to curriculum and learning environments (as required).
