Student Leadership at Lyndhurst Secondary College

Student Leadership at Lyndhurst Secondary College is focused on providing as many students as possible a chance to participate in the democratic process of representing the voice of their peers. We take great pride in guiding potential leaders through the process of developing the skills and abilities to do this effectively and celebrate with them the impact they have on the College environment.

Leadership opportunities exist at all year levels and are selected by a combination of processes, including written applications and expressions of interests, along with processes such as interviews where needed. Students may apply to be Year Level Captains, SRC Representatives, Year 11 Peer Support Leaders, Multipride Leaders, Sport Captains, House Captains and Performing Arts Captains.

Student leaders have many opportunities to build their capacity throughout their time with at the College and this enables them to develop the tools needed to have the greatest possible impact on their school community. Our four College Captains play a major role in modelling the expectations of all leaders and are the face of the Student Voice within the College. Students in leadership roles are invited to attend leadership conferences and workshops throughout the year, represent the College within the wider community at many major events, receive mentoring from staff to build their leadership capacity and run both whole school and year level events.

House System at Lyndhurst Secondary College

Our core values of Commitment, Excellence and Integrity provide a foundation for our students and the expectation of participation in our House System. Here at Lyndhurst Secondary College we aim to be inclusive of all, provide a sense of belonging and pride within oneself. Our College House System is the basis of the sporting and extra-curricular activities here at Lyndhurst Secondary College.

The houses are named after inspirational Australian Olympic athletes:

Debbie FLINTOFF – King (Hurdles) – Yellow

Ian HALE (Clay pigeon shooter) – Red

Craig SAYERS (Wheelchair athlete) – Blue

Steve KETTNER (Weight lifting) – Green

Our three Sport Captains, who are senior students at the College are the face of the House System. They are supported by the two House Captains for each house. These leaders play an integral role in encouraging, organising and supporting fellow students during competitions and events throughout the year.

Student Representative Council at Lyndhurst Secondary College

The Student Representative Council (SRC) provides a variety of students from all year levels the opportunity to have a voice within the College about a variety of issues. Students discuss and take action after considering opinions and suggestions from other students. The SRC run fundraising events throughout the year for both our local community and national charities. They help develop and plan whole school events such as White Ribbon Day, Diversity Day and RUOK Day.

Multipride at Lyndhurst Secondary College

Multipride is a program that was developed in 2009 at Lyndhurst Secondary College. The program is student led and celebrates different cultures within the school community. The Multipride program consists of Student Leaders from years 7–12 from a range of cultural backgrounds. The Student Leaders provide education for students about different cultures and celebrate the diversity within our college. Other schools within our community sought permission from the school to adopt the Multipride program at their college. Multipride schools now work together to share ideas and help promote cultural celebration within the City of Casey community. Multipride continues to grow each year at Lyndhurst Secondary College. Our Multipride leaders have a strong voice within our college community and represent their peers with pride.
