The World Masters Games is the world’s largest multi-sport event. Held every four years, it is the pinnacle sporting event for Masters competitors worldwide. In supporting the Olympic Games ethos of ‘sport for all’, the goal of the World Masters Games is to encourage participation in sport throughout life and celebrate competition and camaraderie.
The first ever Games were held in Toronto, Canada in 1985. Since then seven other cities have embraced the global event including Sydney in 2009 and Torino in 2013. The philosophy of the Masters Games is to promote friendship and understanding, along with competition, between mature sports people regardless of age, gender, race, religion, or sport status.
Friday 21st April 2017 Auckland, New Zealand becomes the latest home to this hugely exciting global sporting event.
Lyndhurst’s very own Marilyn Kinchington and Bec Little will be attending this prestigious event and what better way to wish them luck than to share their journey with you.
Bec Little will be going along as supporter/manager and Marilyn Kinchington will be playing in her Australian Softball team, Monash Magic Masters Softball. This is Marilyn’s 4th games that she has participated in and we’re looking forward to hearing all about it when she returns next month.
