Students planning on a future VCE pathway should select VCE English Preparation.

This course is designed to develop and extend a student’s language competencies in reading, writing, speaking and listening. At this level, students are beginning to explore and respond to more complex ideas and issues through reading and viewing a wide range of texts.

Texts to be studied may include plays, news articles, short story collections, poetry, novels and films. Responses to texts will be required both in writing and verbally at different points in each unit.

In VCE English Preparation, students study the effects of audience and purpose on texts and start to apply this knowledge when constructing appropriate written and spoken texts of their own. Emphasis is placed on the development of skills and work habits that will assist students in future VCE studies.

Students planning on a future VCAL pathway should select VCAL Literacy Preparation (Foundation VCAL). This course is designed to further develop a student’s specific literacy skills that will be required for future success in Intermediate and Senior VCAL studies.

PLEASE NOTE: It is compulsory for all Year 10 students to select either VCE English Preparation or VCAL Literacy Preparation (Foundation VCAL).
