This course offers the minimum qualification for people who are seeking work with more qualified staff in providing education programs and quality care for babies and children. This course has a compulsory work placement component. All students must be 16 years old on 1st February and have Year 10 English and Maths. Students are required to attend a compulsory information session.

This course is offered at Foundation Learning Centre and Chisholm Berwick, Dandenong and Frankston on Wednesdays. Class times at Foundation LC are 9.30am-2.30pm and Chisholm are 9am-3pm.

Possible Career/Further Study Pathways

May lead to further study at TAFE at Diploma level. Employment outcomes may include: Early Childhood Educator Assistant, Au pair, Kindergarten Assistant, Nanny, Family Day Care Carer, Kindergarten Worker.

Work Placement Requirements

Students are required to complete a minimum of 60 hours placement over the course of the program.

Special comments about delivery of the program

This course is particularly suited to students wishing to seek employment working with children in a child care setting. A numeracy and literacy assessment will be delivered at Chisholm prior to commencement.

For VCE students, this program does not have a study score but does count as a 3/4 sequence, and students will be eligible to gain an ATAR increment (10% of the lowest study score of the primary four studies). Please note that this course cannot be counted in the student’s primary four studies for ATAR calculation.

All students are required to attend a compulsory information session as part of the enrolment process. This will include a language, literacy and numeracy assessment.

Students must obtain a volunteer Working With Children Check.

Pen and notebook are required.

Students must be 16 years old on February 1 of the commencing year of study and have  Year 10 Maths and English.
