Cranbourne Region Trades Skills Centre Opening Ceremony

On Tuesday June 5th, Lyndhurst Secondary College hosted an official opening ceremony for the Cranbourne Region Trades Skills Centre.

Mr Chris Crewther, MP Federal Member for Dunkley was our special VIP guest who gave an inspiring speech and acknowledged the Australian Governments commitment.

The Lyndhurst Choir sang the National Anthem and following the formal proceedings, students and guests chatted over afternoon tea.

We welcomed other VIP guests who included Cllr Amanda Stapledon and Pauline Richards, Labor member for Cranbourne as well as our special guests from the Partnering Colleges and School, VACC and SELLEN colleagues to name a few.

The Cranbourne Region Trades Skills Centre (CRTSC) is a joint venture between Lyndhurst Secondary College, Cranbourne Secondary College, Alkira Secondary College and Marnebek School. This project was funded by the Australian Government.

This centre offers students across all the 4 schools and other secondary Colleges in the Casey South area the opportunity to undertake Vocational Education Training in Schools (VETiS) programs to complement their VCE or VCAL studies.

Lyndhurst Secondary College’s automotive facility has undergone a major renovation as part of the Trade Skills Centre project, and now offers first year and second year automotive VET course on site.

Cranbourne Secondary College has renovated their wood technology facility and are able to offer Building and Construction certificates for first year, and Alkira Secondary College renovated their food technology facility, offering Hospitality certificates on their site. Marnebek School also underwent renovations to be able to offer Barista courses on their site.

Mrs Konnie Prades, Principal of Lyndhurst said “It’s exciting to finally see this project reach its completion and allow students in the City of Casey area access to state of the art buildings and resources to enable them to gain valuable industry training and experience to prepare them for their chosen careers. This group project enables students across all 4 schools to have the opportunity to gain their VET certificates in their local area and in the comfort of a school setting.”
